Will Kay: Punk Met Ball Red Carpet Fashion

Posted on May 9, 2013

The Met Ball is the only red carpet worth watching. You might ask,”What about the Oscars?” My response is that this year’s Oscars red carpet had the most mediocre excuse for fashion ever. There was no personality, no excitement, it was as if everybody was too scared to make a mistake. Really what it brings to light is this myth that all actors enjoy fashion and are fashionable. The fact that the people who attend the Met Ball actually enjoy fashion makes the Red Carpet so much better. Sure you still have actors, but these are the ones who enjoy fashion, think Sarah Jessica Parker or Tilda Swinton.

Last weekend in New York, the Met Ball celebrated the opening of the major exhibition, Punk: Chaos to Couture, at Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. These were the fashions of the red carpet where the theme was that of the exhibition:

Overall, much better than the Oscars. So quit watching the Oscars you don’t need them.
